Jaisalmer Overview

Jaisalmer isn’t your usual green getaway—it’s a desert city, and that comes with brutal heat, dry air, and limited shade. If you’re expecting comfort or variety, you’ll struggle. But if you actually want something different from mountains and beaches, this place delivers a completely unique landscape—golden sandstone architecture blending almost perfectly with the surrounding desert.

The centerpiece is the massive Jaisalmer Fort, one of the few “living forts” where people still reside inside. Around it, you’ll find intricately carved havelis like Patwon Ki Haveli. But the real experience isn’t just walking around buildings—it’s heading out into the Thar Desert, where places like Sam Sand Dunes offer camel safaris and desert camps.

Jaisalmer is about atmosphere, not constant activity. After sunset, things slow down unless you’re at a desert camp. And don’t ignore the reality—daytime heat can be exhausting, especially if you’re not used to it. This isn’t a place where you rush from one attraction to another; it’s about pacing yourself and absorbing the environment. If you go in peak summer without thinking, you’ll regret it.
